Hasselblad Starts Shipping the HTS 1.5 Tilt-and-Shift Adapter

23/03/2009 Since Hasselblad introduced the HTS tilt-and-shift adapter in July 2008, photographers have anxiously awaited its arrival. The first shipment of HTS 1.5 adapters are now on their way to distributors worldwide.

The Hasselblad HTS 1.5 is a powerful focusing and creative tool capable of rotating 0 degrees to the left or right to enable free placement of the sharpness plane and to shift direction. Designed to accommodate the HCD 28mm, HC 35mm, HC 50mm, HC 80mm, and HC 100mm lenses, this novel device adds five different tilt-and-shift lenses to the Hasselblad HC/HCD lens range.

“Hasselblad is always pushing the technical envelope to bring more creative possibilities and photographic flexibility to our photographers,” says Peter Stig, Hasselblad’s director of digital camera products. “This simple device doesn’t just solve technical challenges. It provides a valuable step-up for many of our photographers.”

Since July, Hasselblad has added an extra ISO step to the H3DII camera models. This means that the H3DII-39 moves up to ISO 800 and the H3DII-31 moves up to ISO 1600.

Among the other recent enhancement to the HTS:

  • Better grip on the surface of the handles controlling the tilt and shift movements
  • A shield to prevent users from accidentally touching the locking lever when turning the handles
  • A 0-position mark, which can be felt when adjusting the HTS adapter
  • Refined readout of HTS movements on the camera display so the user doesn’t have to look at the scale meters.
  •

“In addition, DAC lens corrections have been calculated for all lenses and extension rings, for impressive image results, even when shooting with extreme motion,” says Lars Elmo, Hasselblad product manager.

For the H3DII-50 and all previous H-camera models, software upgrades must be installed prior to working with the HTS 1.5 adapter. Software requirements for the adapter include:

  • Phocus 1.1.3 for Mac and Phocus 1.0.2 for Windows
  • H-camera firmware: 081222.hbf
  • Capture unit firmware: R326.CIM (H3DII-50) or R248 (all other models)
